What is Melanin Do you know

Melanin Poppin’ It seems where ever you turn you hear these beautiful affirmations of self-love and beauty. But you may ask what the heck really is melanin? Do you know?

Melanin is the pigment in the eyes, hair, and skin that gives us some protection from the UV rays emitted by the sun.

Melanocytes

Melanocytes are cells that produce pigment granules in the basal layer. Damage to DNA triggers melanocyte-stimulating hormones to produce melanin.

Melanin production is stimulated by exposure to sunlight and protects the cells below by absorbing and blocking UV radiation. Because of this, dark skin men and women who produce more melanin have more protection against harmful UV rays and sun exposure. But no matter what everyone should wear sunscreen to protect themselves from UV radiation.
