How To Treat Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition in which portions of a person’s skin darken in color. If you’re struggling with this problem, and you’re looking for a way to even out your skin tone, there are many solutions you can try. Getting rid of hyperpigmentation can take time, but this issue is quite solvable.

Preventing Hyperpigmentation

If you have an even skin tone, but are worried that you’ll have to deal with hyperpigmentation in the future, you’ll want to take steps to prevent this issue now. The best way to protect yourself is to regularly apply sunscreen. You should apply SPF to your face throughout the year, even in the winter months.

Hyperpigmentation is primarily caused by the melanin in your skin absorbing ultraviolet rays from the sun. If you take precautions and protect your skin from the sun’s rays, you’ll be able to avoid this condition and keep your skin looking its best.

Skincare Products

Because this issue is so common, there are numerous products that can treat it effectively. Applying vitamin C can help fade bright spots and brighten your skin. Niacinamide, a form of B3, is also a potent way to treat pigmentation issues.

Other ingredients you’ll want to look for include kojic acid and hydroquinone. It’s important to remember that you won’t see results from these products unless you use them regularly. If you’re looking for fast results, you’ll want to explore other options.

If you see a dermatologist, they may prescribe tretinoin. Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A. It is used on the skin (topically) in the treatment of acne and on skin that has been damaged by excessive exposure to the sun. Tretinoin irritates the skin and causes the cells of the skin to grow and die more rapidly, increasing the turnover of cells. New cells replace the cells of existing pimples, and the rapid turnover of cells prevents new pimples from forming.

As usual when taking medication, there might be side effects and Tretinoin is no different. Following the application of tretinoin to the skin, there often is local inflammation. Mild stinging or a sensation of warmth also can occur. Other reported side effects were excessive dryness, scaling, itching and redness.

What I Also Don’t Recommend

I’m not a fan of chemical peels or laser treatments because they can be harsh on your skin. I subscribe to a more natural methodology. It still gets the same or better results. To be fair, I will, however, tell you about these treatments.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel may sound scary, but it’s an effective way to correct pigmentation issues and get healthier-looking skin. A peel is essentially a process that destroys your damaged skin so that healthy, undamaged skin can be revealed.

Because peels can be damaging to your skin, it’s best not to do them at home. Instead, you’ll want to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist or an esthetician.

Because peels burn your skin, you’ll want to be cautious about these treatments. Consult with a professional and look at both the benefits and the risks before deciding how to proceed.

Laser Treatments

Laser treatments may sound like something out of a science fiction movie, but they’re an increasingly popular way to improve the appearance of your skin. You can have laser treatments done by professionals.

Lasers are able to target the dark parts of your skin causing spots to fade. These types of lasers are specifically designed to treat hyperpigmentation and are somewhat gentle on the skin. If you have sensitive skin, you may find that lasers are a better option than chemical peels.

What I strongly Believe Is Best

Facials

Facials are one of the best ways to treat any skin concern you might have, and they’re a great option if you’re trying to get rid of dark spots on your skin.

Facials can benefit your skin in different ways. You may feel as though you’ve turned back the clock for your skin. If you consult with a professional esthetician, someone who is a skin care specialist before your facial, make sure you bring up your pigmentation concerns. They can determine the best action to take to clear up your skin!

Hyperpigmentation isn’t something that you want to live with. If you want to get rid of the dark spots on your skin, you have options.
