Bésame Cosmetics is a luxury beauty brand that brings back the vintage glamour that is missing today. From selling historically accurate lipsticks, mascara, and cream rouge they have everything you could ever want from a highly pigmented historically inspired brand. And now they have skincare.
Bésame Cosmetics
But first a little bit about the owner. Gabriela Hernandez, a Buenos Aires native, a designer, and cosmetics historian, started Bésame Cosmetics in 2004. Gabriela always had an artistic side and an affinity for color. When she created Bésame Cosmetics, she wanted products that represented a time when a woman had beautiful romantic products on her vanity that she could enjoy and use.
So Gabriela decided to start reproducing bullet lipsticks colors that were popular from certain periods that people can enjoy and use today. Gabriela struck gold with this idea. Her lipsticks are now so iconic, especially her different shades of red lipsticks. She also has seasonal colors, but she has at least ten different types of red. So no matter what shade you are, you can find your perfect shade.
I have been a fan of Bésame Cosmetics for quite a while now. I even went to one of her classes in 2015. It was Bésame Cosmetics Lips 101. Here I learned the basics of lipstick history, production and application techniques. What’s so amazing is that Gabriela was there herself teaching the class. She is very knowledgeable about makeup and the history down to the ingredients that are being used. This makes her line so authentic. I truly trust her knowledge and expertise.
I trusted her so much that when I attended the Bésame Cosmetics Lips 101 class, Gabriela picked a shade that she thought would look great on me. To this day, I still wear this lipstick. I just bought another one a few weeks ago. The shade is Bésame Noir Red lipstick inspired by the 1930s. It’s described this way:
Noir Red is a deep plum, boysenberry red that goes on dark and dramatic. Noir Red feels great on the lips with a semi-matte look that stays on all day. Inspired by the lively parties and intrigue of the 1930s, it’s the perfect shade to wear when you want to stand out.
This is for sure a stand-out shade. I’m always looking for a great plum color, and this doesn’t disappoint. It looks great with my skin tone because it has so much pigment and, the color is very rich.
Bésame Skincare ESSENTIALS line
So when I heard that Bésame Cosmetics is bringing back their skincare line I jumped for joy. Bésame Skincare Essentials Cold Cream and Vanishing Cream are the first creams in their brand new line!
Cold Cream
It helps to take off and remove makeup. It’s a Water in oil formula. Cold cream is one of the oldest creams, even the Romans had a version of cold cream. It is called cold cream because initially it was manufactured with almond oil. In order to keep it from spoiling they would keep it cold. So they called it cold cream. Since it has water in it you get a cooling effect from the water but once evaporated it just leaves the oils.
Cold cream was introduced in the 1870s by ponds. It was a product made with vaseline. It was called Cold Cream Vasaline. People would use it to take off makeup, you would put it on and towel it off.
Usually, cold creams are really greasy which could cause breakouts. So, Gabriela chose not to use these ingredients. With her cream, your skin will feel moisturized but won’t have a tacky greasy film. The cream is very concentrated. It’s thick and meant to be massaged in and to be worked with. With every jar, you will then receive a Lymphatic massage leaflet with directions that you can follow while using the cold cream.
Vanishing Cream
Vanishing cream was the first cream to disappear when you put it on the face. It doesn’t leave a trace. Vanishing cream is an oil in water formula. You can use it as a moisturizer and primer. So you can use it as a base for your powder, it improves the performance of your powder. Besame Cosmetics vanishing cream is very light. It’s watery and disappears seamlessly. Then it dries into a matte finish.
I love the tip that Gabriela shared on her Youtube The Bésame Skincare Essentials Launch. She suggested that you can also make your own tinted moisturizer with the vanishing cream. You can take your favorite foundation that is full coverage, mix it with the vanishing cream to make a beautiful tinted moisturizer.
So we see how these two creams are sisters. They go hand in hand and are a perfect addition to any skincare enthusiast. From the packaging to the ingredient choices Besame made sure to take note of everything. Even each product has a batch number. They can keep track of everything. This way they can make sure that each batch is small so it stays fresh, then they reorder batches throughout the year. You can rest assured then that your products have not been sitting but are fresh.
